Pancake Day returns Tuesday, with changes

Kiwanis Pancake Day is one of Athensâ longest lasting traditions, but that doesnât mean there havenât been changes along the way. The 2021 version is 6 a.m to 8 p.m, Tuesday, May 4 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Tickets are $6 pre-sale and $7 at the door.
âI think we may be surprised at the turnout, because people want to get back to normal,â said Jeaneane Lilly,

Pancake Day Committee Chairman Thomas Faulk said theyâre doing things a little differently this year in the interest of COVID-19 safety. What hasnât changed is their offering of a delicious meal for just a few bucks. ....

Tuesday was a big day for the Athens Kiwanis Club with the swearing in of six new members. Lt. Governor Danny Morris administered the oath to Stephanie Gade, Kris Stringer, Phillip Parnell, Kathy Fleming, Jenny Palmer and Barbara Schmidt.

Like many organizations, the Athens Kiwanis Club has seen its share of struggles since the coronavirus started to spread last March.
After the 2020 Pancake Day, Kiwanis meetings were halted for several weeks due to Governor Greg Abbottâs COVID-19 order concerning the size of gatherings. The annual Easter Egg Hunt, where hundreds of kids collect thousands of eggs and win big prizes was canceled in he interest of safety. ....
