the five. fox news alert police say a suspect dead after responding to report of active shooter on university of nevada las vegas campus police update saying a number of victims were taken to the hospital. for more let s go to jonathan hunt for a quick update. two hours ago we got the first word from the las vegas police department there was active shooter on campus of the university of nevada las vegas in the heart of the city of vegas just a short distance to have strip behind the mgm grand hotel. there was also an alert immediately set out by university officials asking students to shelter in place and if to run hide fight run if they could hide if they have to fight if they must. within about 30 minutes of those initial statements from the police department and university we got word from the police that the suspect singular had had been located and in their words quote is deceased. we do not know at this point if the suspect was killed in a shootout with the police o
will do what we need to do, and that is change the law, add some funding, put the funding in the right places. i see that they re crossing the border fence there. put money for i.c.e. so we can deport people when they don t meet the asylum criteria. griff: yeah. and, congressman, you said such an important thing a moment ago, and that is addressing the pull factors. my sources tell me, and mayorkas did not deny it in his interview with bret, that more than 70% of the migrants being encountered every day are being released after not meeting the credible fear threshold. so that means they re not coming for the asylum reasons, they re coming for economic reasons. the giant caravan making its way through mexico now carrying a banner that says [speaking spanish] free us from poverty, they re coming for economic reasons, and they re getting released. would you point to that as one of the main if things that has to change, the mass release
they have to give them, as well. we ll talk about legislation next. let me ask about the kids. this is a moment, i don t know who watched melania trump live yesterday. she had great questions, i don t think we have the answer to. she said, what about these kids who are here and are seeking asylum and can t go back, we don t know where they are from. they have a special minor refugee program, i d love to know more about that, how do you find answers to where the kids came from and a lot of them aren t speaking at the time. that is one of the major issues and once we get families back together, how do you decide, right, who is here for asylum reasons and who is here for economic reasons. juan: correct, and we changed standard for asylum. the attorney general said if you come from abusive family, for example, domestic violence is no longer criteria to allow you to claim asylum.
from people coming from outside. not since 9/11 has there been a major attack from people coming in from outside. that piece of the puzzle has been taken care of. as you know, the amount of vetting into the united states by any people from syria or iraq or the refugees or any of those coming in is humungous. it takes up to two years of multiple vetting by the relevant u.s. and u.n. and other agencies, including agencies in jordan and all the rest of it, to vet people who just want to come in for asylum reasons. that is something the u.s. does incredibly well and exhaustivly. people in law enforcement are concerned that the ideas muddy the waters when you are actually trying to get to the heart of the matter and try to figure out how to stop the home grown stuff. that is the crisis that we re facing right now.
