Apple shares 5th spot with Asus in India PC market in Q1 this year: IDC


As remote work and learning continued amid the pandemic in India, Apple replaced Taiwanese brand Asus in the consumer segment for the fourth position in the country in the first quarter of 2021, an IDC report said on Thursday.
Apple recorded its biggest quarter for the overall PC shipments in India and tied for the fifth position with Asus.
Its shipments grew 335.5 per cent (year-on-year) and 45.3 per cent from the previous quarter.

New Delhi, May 11 : After posting a healthy 18 per cent growth (year-on-year) in the first quarter this year, the April-June quarter is expected to face growth challenges amid the state-level lockdowns and subdued consumer demand, the International Data Corporation (IDC) said on Tuesday.

The Indian smartphone market recorded an 18 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth in Q1 2021, between January and March with shipments totalling 38 million units, according to the International Data Corporation’s (IDC) Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker
However, the market declined by 14 per cent from a strong Q4 2020.
The onset of the second wave of Covid-19 in the country has negatively impacted the consumer market as the inventory cycle which had shrunk earlier in H2 2020 started to get longer since mid-Q1 21, as per the report.
“The April-June quarter is expected to face growth challenges under the weight of the second wave of infections. Smartphone shipment in the country clocked 18 per cent year-on-year growth in the March quarter, but the April-June quarter period is expected to face growth challenges under the weight of the second wave of infections, research firm IDC said on Tuesday.
Smartphone shipment grew 18 per cent to 38 million units in the March 2021 quarter over the year-ago period, but declined by 14 per cent from the December 2020 quarter.
