Supportive housing group draws town’s ire again

Silver City town councilors adopted two ordinances Tuesday night that further streamlined the town zoning in two neighborhoods, and, for a third time, approved a notice of intent to adopt a labor management relations ordinance that will bring Silver City’s local labor relations board into compliance with state law.
One of the zone changes was at the request of the owner of a Brewer Hill property that now houses a homeless shelter.
The council met virtually Tuesday night via the GoToMeeting app due to the coronavirus pandemic. ....

Silver City officials gathered virtually for their last regular meeting of the year last Tuesday, with James Reynolds sitting in as the town’s legal counsel. Longtime town attorney Robert Scavron retired earlier this year.
Revenues and crime are both on the rise in the town of Silver City, and 10 more local businesses were awarded federal CARES Act cash to help them get through the pandemic, town councilors learned last week.
Raises all ’round
Due to this year’s unexpected growth in gross receipts tax revenue the primary revenue source for town government and an additional windfall increase in utilities revenues, Silver City will be doling out raises to both its union and non-union employees, including Town Manager Alex Brown, who announced that he wanted to reinstate pay increases in the budget during last Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Town Council.
