A 65-year-old Battle Creek woman was ordered to trial Thursday in the December stabbing death of her boyfriend.
Rose Derrick faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole if convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Walter May, 61.
May died in their apartment at 38 College St. on Dec. 14, 9 days after May was stabbed on Dec. 5 by Derrick.
But Dr. Theodore Brown of the Calhoun County Medical Examiner s office testified May died not from the original wound, but from a new stabbing inflicted only minutes before he died.
Brown said during the autopsy, he saw the earlier stab wound, which he told Calhoun County District Judge Paul Beardslee was healing, but that the new wound in the upper left chest was fatal. ....
