Shamima Begum must be treated as a threat, anti-terror commander Neil Basu says Martin Bentham
The Islamic State bride Shamima Begum will be treated as a threat and arrested if she wins her legal battle to return to Britain, the country’s top counter-terrorism officer said today.
Met Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said that anyone who had travelled to Syria and “said the things publicly that she’s said” should expect to face investigation and potential prosecution if they managed to come back.
His comments came as he warned that Britain does not need to “import a greater problem” to add to the severe terror threat by allowing the return of Islamic State foreign fighters and supporters.
