Long Island Rail Road changes become effective Sept. 5

Commuters on the Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Rail Road can expect a lot of changes come Sept. 5. But what the LIRR is touting as simplified trips will be expensive for commuters like Jeffry Brown. A CEO of a company in Manhattan, he is trying to convince his employees to return to work in person, which would require for most taking the Long Island Rail Road. Brown wrote in an email to the Herald that the changes will cost him an additional $120 a month for a municipal parking permit to use another station which he will need to do because of the LIRR’s changes. Although public policies should encourage people to take mass transit, the proposed changes will do the opposite for the Greenvale commuter. ....

ALBANY, N.Y.  The head of the New York Assembly Judiciary Committee, Charles Lavine, warned Gov. Andrew  Cuomo in a letter Wednesday that a tweet by spokesperson Rich Azzopardi suggesting Attorney General Tish James may be looking to run against the governor and undermine her investigation into his office could amount to witness suppression.

Cuomo office warned against criticizing AG James

The top lawmaker overseeing the New York Assembly s impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a letter Wednesday warned against criticizing Attorney General Letitia James separate probe of sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, and that doing so could have severe repercussions for the governor. 
The letter comes after multiple instances of a top communications adviser to Cuomo has publicly suggested James investigation is politically motivated and that she intends to run for governor herself in 2022, though James has given no public indication that she plans to do so. 
Cuomo spokesman and communications director Rich Azzopardi has also decried leaks of details of the investigation, including the news late last week that Cuomo would sit for an interview with investigators.  ....
