Deepfakes have surfaced in local races, with politicians comparing the potential impact of deepfake technology on democracy to weapons of mass destruction.
Barry Weinberg got the nod for a spot on the Board of Elections the last month from the Manhattan Democratic Party, which is led by political ally Keith Wright, a former lobbyist and state Assembly member. At the time, Weinberg said he didn’t anticipate any headaches over his nomination from Wright but that’s not proving to be the case thus far.
