Charlotte Braithwaite BUSINESSES in a borough have been called upon to support young people hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic as a new employment hub is launched. Burnley’s 16 to 24-year-olds have seen reduced training and job opportunities as well as redundancies in the past year because of Covid-19. Now the Burnley Together Youth Employment and Skills Hub has been launched to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week. It aims to help young people with training and job opportunities with personalised coaching support that focuses on mental and physical health. One young person already benefitting from an apprenticeship is 18-year-old Charlotte Braithwaite, an Advanced Business Administration Apprentice at Burnley College. ....

Asif Raja, 54, is charged with one count of arson that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison, with a maximum sentence of 20 years if convicted. Asif Raja is under arrest for trying to burn down his business. He didn’t really think it through, which is why Raja got caught. He allegedly lit fires in several spots in the building. The sprinkler system he had installed knocked the flames down though. And… all the action was caught on the surveillance cameras he had installed. He thwarted his own crime! Jan 27, 2021 n Queens, New York, 54-year-old restaurant owner Asif Raja may be one of the dumbest criminals ever! He attempted to set his business on fire after the restaurant had been closed due to COVID-19 restrictions and he was hoping to collect insurance money. Somehow he forgot that he had installed security cameras and a top notch sprinkler system in 2019. The sprinkler system quickly put out the fire so only minimum damage was done and then police noticed the security cameras. They then took the tapes and saw him spraying lighter fluid on the tables and chairs and then walking around lighting each on fire. Raja has been charged with one count of arson, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in federal prison with a maximum sentence of 20 years if convicted. ....
ASTORIA, Queens (WABC) A restaurant owner in Queens has been arrested for allegedly trying to set his own business on fire after the restaurant had been closed due to COVID-19 restrictions. Investigators say 54-year-old Asif Raja set the fire in several locations inside his restaurant, but the sprinkler system knocked the flames down. It happened back in August at the business on Steinway Street in Astoria. Only after an ongoing investigation did FDNY fire marshals, working with NYPD and ATF as part of a task force, identify it as an arson. ....
