Five-member Indian judo team for Tel Aviv Grand Slam

New Delhi, Feb 11 : A five-member Indian team is set to compete at the Tel Aviv Grand Slam, to be held from February 18 to 20, but the squad, which also includes a coach, hasn’t got visas so far.
Jasleen Singh Saini (66kg) and Vijay Yadav (60kg), Avtar Singh (100kg), Sushila Devi (women’s 48kg), and Tulika Mann (women’s 78kg) are the players while Jiwan Sharma is the coach.
All five competed at a two-day national selection trials for Olympic qualifying competitions, including the Asian Oceania, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday and Wednesday. ....

New Delhi, Feb 11 : Olympian Avtar Singh has criticised the functioning of the Judo Federation of India (JFI) for not following National Sports Development Code 2011 and International Judo Federation (IJF) rules while holding national selection trials for the Olympic qualifying competitions, including Asian Oceania Championship, held on February 9 and 10 here.
In a letter addressed to JFI general secretary Man Mohan Jaiswal, Singh, who competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, has pointed out that competitors were just given five days to prepare for the trials meant for the prestigious competitions like the Olympic qualifiers, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. ....
