Seventeen candidates from different political parties will be contesting the upcoming Senate election from Sindh, after the withdrawal of the nomination papers of as many nomination papers.
Of the contesting candidates, 11 belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as many to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and one each to the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
The candidates will contest the polls on 11 seats of Sindh in the Senate.
Among those whose nomination papers have been withdrawn, three are from the PPP, nine from the PTI, four from the MQM-P and one from the GDA. ....

A written oath highlighting the process of affirmation from the candidates contesting the Senate polls that they had not paid money to acquire tickets from political parties, had not engaged and were not involved in illegal activities and horse trading, has been introduced for the very first time in Pakistan.
The affidavits comprise of five stipulations. The candidate has to first mention the seat they are contesting from. Second, they have to affirm that they haven t paid money to acquire the ticket to contest the election or paid the voters directly or indirectly to seek their votes. The candidate has to affirm that they are not involved in any violation of laws, illegal activities or corruption. They also have to agree to allow the election commission to inquire about their assets and accounts under Election Commission Act 2017 ....

The government has decided to recover Rs386 billion from the sugar mills responsible for an acute shortage of the commodity last year.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a recent cabinet meeting, asked Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar to brief the cabinet about the actions taken so far on the report of a sugar commission that conducted a probe into the crisis.
The commission led by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had accused sugar mill owners of earning illegal profits worth billions of rupees through unjustified price hikes, benami transactions, tax evasion, misuse of subsidy and purchasing sugarcane off the books. ....

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf faced criticism from party cadres over awarding of Senate tickets due to which it failed to finalise the list of candidates despite Monday being the last day for the submission of nomination papers with the ECP.
Taking notice of the matter, Prime Minister Imran Khan convened an emergency meeting of the parliamentary committee on Monday.
During the meeting, Premier Imran hinted at a change in tickets and said they “will be given on merit”. ....
