Daily Times May 31, 2021 In a notification issued by the SBP, all commercial banks have been directed to divert the accounts of all government departments before the start of the new fiscal year with the central bank. According to the directives, no new account of any government department in a private bank will be opened and all previous accounts will be closed off with immediate effect. An employee of National Bank, on conditions of anonymity informed that talks were underway to prevent the transfer of funds from the Civil Armed Forces to the central bank. He said that the National Bank wanted to retain these funds and wanted an exemption from the SBP but the mother bank has not yet given its verdict on the issue. ....
Top Story May 19, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Karachi, Sindh’s capital, remained the most populated city of Pakistan, with a total population of 10,624,894, as the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics issued the Census-2017 report. The PBS, in the sixth census of Pakistan, revealed that the country’s population had risen to 207.68 million 106.3 million male and 101.3 million female with an annual growth rate of 2.40%, reports Ashraf Malkham for the Geo News. The total population of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands at 30.51 million, erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) 4.99 million, Punjab 109.99 million, Sindh 47.85 million, Balochistan 12.34 million, and Islamabad 2 million. CDA clarifies news item December 22, 2020 ISLAMABAD: Media Coordinator of Capital Development Authority (CDA) issued clarification regarding a news item published in ‘The News’ under the title ‘282 corruption inquiries pending against CDA officials’ on December 21, 2020. Media Coordinator Syed Mohsin Raza Shirazi stated in a press release that with regard to news clipping dated 21-12-2020, appearing in the daily ‘The News’ regarding ‘282 corruption inquiries pending against the CDA officials,’ it is clarified that only 58 formal inquiries under the provision of CDA Employees Service Regulations 1992 are pending on various charges of inefficiency, misconduct and corruption against CDA Employees of various cadres. The news regarding 282 pending inquiries is, therefore, not based on facts. Out of 58 pending formal inquires against CDA employees, neither of the inquiry is pending for more than 10 years.
