Coronavirus outbreak: Demand for CBSE exam fee refund


Shanti Rana, 65, rears goats and stitches clothes to feed and educate her four school-going grandchildren.
The family of five lives in the Madanpur Khadar slum in southeast Delhi, and the children are enrolled in a Delhi government school. The children’s father Shanti’s son is dead and their mother does not live with them.
Last February, Shanti’s eldest grandchild, Kirti, paid Rs 1,800 to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to register herself for her Class X board exams, which were scheduled from May 4 to June 16.
With the exams now cancelled because of the Covid surge, Shanti wants the board to refund the money. ....

NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India, lost Rs 23,871 crore as investors dumped Reliance Industries (RIL) stocks along with other high-flying names on Monday as rising coronavirus cases spooked markets.
RIL shares also took a hit after the Supreme Court halted the Reliance Retail deal to acquire Future Group assets. Interestingly, the deal size at Rs 24,713 crore was similar to Ambani’s wealth loss on Monday. ....

Union Budget 2021-22: Funds for schools slashed


The education sector witnessed a major cut in outlay in the Union Budget for 2021-22 amid substantial dip in allocation to a scheme that aimed to improve school infrastructure and teaching.
The allocation to school and higher education in the budget presented by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday was Rs 93,224 crore against the budgeted estimate of Rs 99,311 crore in 2020-21, which was revised to Rs 85, 089 crore. This is for the first time that the education ministry’s budget witnessed a cut in the allocated amount in the recent years.
Allocation to a scholarship scheme which aims to promote enrolment and reduce dropout of girls belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in secondary schools also plummeted. ....

CBSE exams in May-June, results set for July 15


The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will hold the examinations for Classes X and XII students in May-June, almost two months behind the usual schedule.
According to a notification issued by the CBSE, the board exams for Classes X and XII will begin on May 4. Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said the exams would be over on June 10 and the results declared by July 15.
The practical, project and internal assessment segments will be held from March 1 and can continue till the theory papers are over. 
The CBSE said alternative ways of conducting practical exams would be explored this year in view of the pandemic. It, however, did not elaborate. ....
