Firefly is spreading awareness about Youth Justice Services available in Dryden.
Cindy Engstrom and Ashley Apland were guests at the Rotary Club of Dryden’s virtual meeting Wednesday to talk about the Youth Justice Committee and it’s program.
Committee Chair Cindy Engstrom explains the program uses a restorative justice approach, that stresses the accountability and responsibility of youth offenders, through meaningful consequences.
“Our goal is not give out harsh punishment for bad behavior, but rather to allow the offender to understand and reflect on what they’ve done and also propose how their going to repair that harm in a safe, supportive environment.”

FIREFLY in Kenora-Rainy River is trying to raise its profile as youth and families continue to fight through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clinical Manager Ashley Apland says they have a number of trained professionals on hand to help you during this difficult time.
“FIREFLY is a multi-disciplinary agency that offers a variety of programs such as Mental Health, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech Language Pathology.
Apland adds, “Specific to FIREFLY’s mental health. We’re offering virtual counselling right now via video or phone and we are also offering face-to-face where appropriate. FIREFLY started a virtual walk-in on Thursday. So that means you can call the intake number.”
