The importance of training up the first responders is that they are usually the first ones on the scene, and have a better chance to control the situation and save lives.

Emily Carbonetti: Four-decade career in the classroom started at UMaine
As a third generation Black Bear, Emily Carbonettiâs connections to the University of Maine run deep. Her momâs family was from Augusta, and her grandfather and both of her parents graduated from UMaine.
âMy mother had no choice. She was going to the University of Maine â that was it,â says Carbonetti, half joking.
