Emotive, which develops conversational text messaging software, said this morning that it has raised $50M in its Series B funding round. The funding was led by CRV, and also included Mucker Capital, TenOneTen Ventures, plus new investors, Stripes and Vulcan Capital. The company said the funding brings its valuation to $400M. Murat Bicer, a General Partner at CRV, has joined the company s board with the new funding. Motive provides conversational text messaging used by e-commerce brands to simulate human interaction with customers, with the aim of preventing cart abandonment, promote new sales and product releases, and more. Along with the funding, the company said it has named two executives, naming Adam Waid as Chief Customer Officer and Oleg Pylnev as Chief Technology Officer. Wald was previously at SalesLoft and Salesforce, and Pylnev was formerly at Honest Company and SpaceX. Brian Zatulove is CEO and Co-Founder of Emotive. ....

Akselos, bNovate Technologies, Inait, Iprova, Predictive Layer, SwissBorg and Visium join the Scale Up Vaud program in 2021. In total, 34 Vaud-based firms are part of the label today. Worrying new satellite imagery suggests China is building full-blown military bases on controversial artificial islands in the South China Sea.
A report by geospatial software company Simularity has revealed what appears to be infrastructure for radars, antennae mounts and what could be a potential military base on Mischief Reef.

UAE- &lsquo Deploying AI in defence systems will reduce risks'

(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) With increasing role of machines and systems comes the risk of cyberattacks, deploying of artificial intelligence (AI) in defence systems is challenging but is required from the view of cyber security, a top minister said.
At the International Defence Conference, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy and Teleworking Applications, noted that securing of systems is as critical as defending the sovereignty of the country.
The UAE is a country that looks ahead and plans proactively rather than reactively towards changes. AI will reshape the world as we know it.
