Englewood NJ Police Chief Lawrence Suffern retires

ENGLEWOOD Police Chief Lawrence Suffern is retiring as of Thursday, ending a career spanning three decades.
The only Black chief in Bergen County, Suffern has worked for the department for more than 33 years. He was first hired at age 18, said Mayor Michael Wildes.
“He has garnered tremendous respect among other chiefs in the county and will be sorely missed,” Wildes said. “He is a dear friend, and his efforts for the city are very much appreciated.”
Wildes said Suffern “understood the complex and diverse community” in the city of Englewood.
Suffern became chief in late 2013, succeeding Chief Arthur O Keefe. He was promoted to deputy chief in November 2009 and served as the public information officer for the department.  ....
