space center where the uncrewed artemis i mission is scheduled to lift off between 8:33 and 10:33 a.m. here s the thing, there are technical issues right now. a hydrogen leak and potentially an engine problem threatening this morning s launch. the plan is for artemis one to eventually fly around the moon with three mannequins, including one named commander moonequin. nearly 50 years ago apollo went to the moon. the artemis plans to land humans on the lunar south pole of the moon in the next few years and ultimately serve as a way to get to mars. lets get the very latest on where things stand right now at the kennedy space center. cnn s kristin fisher is there. what can you tell us? reporter: well, guys, i think it s important to remember that this is only a test flight. it is the very first time this artemis rocket, the sls rocket and the orion crew capsule on top, has ever flown. we knew there was a very good chance that they were going to run into issues today. knew the

the issue that came up was an engine bleed that couldn t be remedied, but the rocket is currently in a stable configuration. when it ultimately does take off, the artemis i will set the stage for nasa s goal to land the first woman and the first person of color on the moon by 2025, and eventually tackle human exploration of mars. and a lot of new experiments for the moon. cnn s space and defense correspondent kristin fisher is live at the kennedy space center. a lot of stops and starts, questions if they could complete this and now the scrub. do we know the full scope? are rt we don t know the full scope. about 91 nasa engineers are trying to figure out if this is a few day delay or, perhaps, longer. we have a backup launch attempt on friday. a third attempt on monday. if this is something they can fix on the launchpad. if it s not something they can fix on the launchpad, then they ll have to roll it back to the vertical assembly building, which takes about three days. yo

By the israeli space agency, one by the german space agency, and the one nasa has testing our new survival suit, one of the lead engineers that solved the apollo 13 problem. right now there s no people up there waiting but there are these amazingly complex mannequins. everything about this was a test. how much radiation will they get? what will the heat shield be like? we ll be going hotter and faster into earth thaner before on rye-entry. everything about this mission is pushing the limits. of course, we have to sort of stand down and make sure everything is working before we go. moonequin will wait for another day. if you can stand by as we are awaiting certainly what we know now this has been scrubbed, but our special coverage is continuing, berman. that s right. our special live coverage of the scrubbing of the launch is

Gigantic fireball on cape canaveral. they caught it in time. this is why you do the unmanned missions like they re doing today. brianna? it s a 42-day mission, this is supposed to be. they have to get it right from the beginning here. let s get to cnn s kristin fisher live for us at kennedy space center with news that this launch has just been scrubbed. kristin? reporter: brianna, definitely some disappointment at the kennedy space center, but, you know, we knew this was going to be a very likely outcome of this very first attempt to get this incredibly complicated rocket off the launchpad. nasa was able to successfully trouble shoot through three problems this morning. the lightning, the hydrogen leak, they also thought they saw a crack in the intertank, in the main core stage. they were able to successfully fix all three of those issues. but in the end, it was the fourth problem, an engine with engine number 3, as you guys have been talking about, that they have simply not been

Search for theory on everything. miles, anything you hear of particular concern this morning? well, rocket science is all about plumbing, john, and you better sweat those pipes pretty tightly. when they did the wet dress rehearsals, leaks bedevilled this launch, and that s what we re looking at engine 3 there s a hydrogen leak in a flange. it s a no-go situation. the team is working on the problem. we don t have a ton of visibility into what they re doing because they re not sharing the loops or the conversations with the nasa test directors and so forth. so, we re waiting for nasa to tell us, but we re deep into this hold. and they re already starting late because of the lightning overnight. there s a two-hour window. we re we re on the back end of the window, if at all today. professor, instead of talking about what s not happening, let s talk about what they hope
