Today, VANS has announced a limited footwear collaboration designed by four rising Black artist. Artist participating are; Rewina Beshue, Sydney G. James, Tony Whlgn, and Chris Martin. All who each have a diffrent perspective, this project was created in hopes to push the culture forward while paving the way for generations to follow
As Vans remains committed to continuously uplifting the voices of marginalized communities, the partnership with these four artists reinforces the powerful role of self-expression and the awareness to the diverse representation of creativity brought to life with this project. Each week in February, Vans.com will feature a different artist delving into their story and work alongside the exclusive shoe drop, kicking off with Beshue‘s shoe this week. ....

Collective Arts Introduces Amplified Voices Art Series
Collective Arts Introduces Amplified Voices Art Series
Hamilton, Ont, Canada, Jan. 26, 2021 Collective Arts, a brewer and distiller that has worked with over 1200 artists in their seven years, will be devoting its next series of art-focused can labels to artwork dealing with issues of social justice. The craft brewer will feature work by 36 artists from around the world in hopes of using their platform to create continued awareness, support and converation around injustice faced by so many.
In an effort to help create space for groups that are too often left in the margins, Collective Arts revamped its quarterly Call for Art this past summer. The Amplified Voices Call for Art was geared toward protest art, artwork that deals with equity/inequity, art from BIPOC artists, art from LGBTQ2+ artists, and artwork that conveys a sense of hope for a safer and more inclusive future.    ....

On June 2, about 28 million people posted black squares to their Instagram feeds as part of Blackout Tuesday, an initiative started by two Black women in the music industry Jamila Thomas, senior director of marketing at Atlantic Records, and Brianna Agyemang, a former executive at Atlantic in an effort to encourage reflection about the prevalence of anti-Black racism and police brutality.
While some people’s engagements with the cause ended on Instagram drawing criticism from some activists and academics, who derided the posts as prime examples of “slacktivism,” or half-hearted social media-based activism others opened their wallets to donate to Black-led and Black-focused nonprofit organizations, collectives and mutual aid groups. ....
