BARRIE, ONT. A Toronto man died after going for a swim in Sparrow Lake near Severn Township on Tuesday. Provincial police say witnesses managed to get the 76-year-old man to shore when he went under the water and didn t resurface. They administered first aid until Simcoe County paramedics arrived and took over. Police say despite their efforts, Roland Jonker was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim had been swimming near a cottage in Deep Bay. Despite safety messaging, police patrolling waterways issued four offence notices to boaters for not having life-jackets over the weekend. COVID has really increased the popularity of people being on the water, and unfortunately, when you have that popularity, we have people on the water that don t have the skills to be on the water yet, said OPP Provincial Marine Coordinator Sgt. Dave Moffatt. Locally, in the past week, four people drowned, including an 18-year-old Mississauga man who died while swimming in the Muskoka River. ....

BARRIE, ONT. Bracebridge OPP confirm a body has been recovered from the waters of Arnolds Bay in Georgian Bay Township following concerns of a potential drowning. Police say the body of 61-year-old Errol Knight of Caledon was found shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday. Life-saving measures performed on scene were unsuccessful. Witnesses told officers a man was having difficulty in the water near Moose Deer Point, west of MacTier. They said he slipped beneath the surface and didn t come back up. Officers, along with Muskoka EMS, Moose Deer Point Fire Department, the OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, aided in the recovery effort. ....

Despite lifesaving efforts undertaken, 61-year-old Errol Knight of Caledon died at the scene. The Bracebridge OPP is searching for a man that was reported to be “having difficulty in the water” in Arnolds Bay near Moose Deer Point. Constable Samantha Bigley says officers were called to the scene shortly after 1 PM when members of the public noticed a man having difficulty staying afloat. She adds that the people who called the police said he eventually slipped under the water and didn’t resurface. ....
