Uwe Richter, the head of the Doggerbank fishing group in the vital port city of Bremerhaven, has warned many vessels have been left vacant and fleets unable to earn money after an EU agreement collapsed. Mr Richter explained a treaty with the EU and nations, including Norway and Greenland, expired in January.

Speaking to Bloomberg, the French politician argued the UK has agreed to give up on parts of its sovereign ability to decide on EU rules in exchange for access to the bloc s market. Mr Beaune said Brussels will continue to insist and demonstrate that remaining in the club will always be the best option, in a bid to belittle Brexit. He said: We want to insist that the UK has secured access to the EU market which we were ready to provide for.

The UK sealed a landmark Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) with the EU on December 24 and officially left the bloc on December 31, 2020. Less than two weeks after Britain ended its membership with the bloc, EU chiefs are set to announce a fund worth £535million (€600million) for struggling EU fishing fleets and another £3billion (€3.4billion) for other sectors, RTE news reports.
