GENEVA (AP) The World Health Organization gave emergency use authorization Friday to a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by China’s Sinopharm, potentially paving the way for millions of the doses to reach needy countries through a UN-backed program rolling out coronavirus vaccines.
The decision by a WHO technical advisory group a first for a Chinese vaccine opens the possibility that Sinopharm’s offering could be included in the UN-backed COVAX program in coming weeks or months and distributed through UNICEF and the WHO’s Americas regional office.

The World Health Organization(WHO) approved for emergency use a COVID-19 vaccine from China s state-owned drugmaker Sinopharm on Friday, bolstering Beijing s push for a bigger role in inoculating the world.
The vaccine, one of two main Chinese coronavirus vaccines that have been given to hundreds of millions of people in China and elsewhere, is the first developed by a non-Western country to win WHO backing.
It is also the first time the WHO has given emergency use approval to a Chinese vaccine for any infectious disease. Earlier this week, separate WHO experts had expressed concern about the quality of data the company provided on side effects.

World Health Organization (WHO) is placing a heat-sensing sticker on China s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine to inform health workers if the doses are viable.
The WHO, which authorized the vaccine for emergency use on Friday, called the decision to use the sticker a first. It will change colors when exposed to heat to signal if it is safe for use. This afternoon, WHO gave emergency use listing to sign off on Beijing s COVID-19 vaccine, making it the sixth vaccine to receive WHO validation for safety, efficacy and quality, Tedros Adhahom Ghebreysus, the WHO s director-general, told reporters Friday, the
