No structural integrity issue has been identified with a downtown Cedar Rapids building where bricks fell onto the sidewalk from the facade of a four-story building this weekend, Building Services Director Kevin Ciabatti said Monday.
An initial inspection of the building on 2nd Street shows no “deeper structural concerns at this time,” but the owner of the building has 48 hours to get an assessment of the structural integrity of the four-story building. In the meantime, the sidewalk on 3rd Avenue, where the bricks landed, will remain closed.
