The following stories are my summaries of ones from 1961 editions of the Solano Republican. Bomb threats at Armijo: On the morning of Sept. 21, 1961, not one, but two anonymous bomb threats were made within two hours of each other warning of explosions that would happen at Armijo High School. Students were moved to Brownlee Field (Armijo’s football field) while police, firefighters and sheriff’s deputies searched the classrooms and ruled both calls hoaxes. While law enforcement did their work, students waiting on the bleachers listened to the Armijo band evidently playing music they deemed most appropriate to accompany bomb searches. ....

(Robinson Kuntz/Daily Republic) Armijo graduate serves as lead winemaker at Tolenas Winery SUISUN VALLEY Lisa Howard wanted to run away as fast and as far as she could after finishing up at Armijo High School. She went to Cal Poly and earned an engineering degree. She ended up in Arizona building large irrigation systems for farmers. It was then her husband told her she was a “fish out of water.” She returned to Suisun Valley six years ago and now serves as lead winemaker at Tolenas Winery. The house she grew up in – her parents are Steve and Linda Tenbrink – sits next to the winery. ....
Press Release: Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Announces District Teacher of the Year Mr. Joseph Arbizu was selected as the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. The official announcement was made at the January 28, 2021 meeting of the Governing Board. Mr. Arbizu was one of twenty-six outstanding educators celebrated and recognized by the Governing Board for their outstanding excellence. Mr. Arbizu will represent FSUSD as the district’s Teacher of the Year at the upcoming Solano County recognition. Mr. Arbizu was initially nominated by his peers at Armijo High School for this award. Now in his eleventh year as a teacher, Mr. Arbizu currently teaches Algebra II, Integrated Math I, and Geometry. He shared that he came into the teaching profession to share his love of mathematics with his community. He passionately states, “Mathematics to me is sacred.
