The water quality report for September 2023 reveals a multifold increase in total coliform bacteria over the last five years. While the total coliform value reported in September 2018 was 9,200 MPN/100 ml, it has risen to 1,60,000 MPN/100 ml. The amount of faecal coliform bacteria has also tripled (from 2800 MPN/100 ml to 7,000 MPN/100 ml), and the BOD value has increased from 4 mg/L to 6 mg/L.
Earlier this week, residents of Chikka Togur, a few kilometres away from where the leopard was shot dead on November 1, said that they sighted another leopard. However, officials denied the presence of another leopard in that area.
There are four zones around the TG Halli reservoir. Tourism Minister CP Yogeeshwara said that to meet the severe water shortage in Nandi Hills, there was a plan to pump treated water from Bengaluru to the hill station. The irony is stark as Nandi was once the source of drinking water for Bengaluru.
