That was just a nobrainer seeing the weather conditions with all of the smoke thats just descending into the Bay Area. Taking a look at what theyre up against with the Caldor Fire and some of the Weather Detection sensors that we have. Yellow shows where the fire is already burned. Red shows where we still have active fires. And there are still some on the leading edge of the fire thats been moving off towards the east in every direction of this fire. Reporter the Caldor Wildfire continues to burn dangerously close to South Lake Tahoe. And unfortunately the weather Conditions Today expected to be very challenging. There are namely two issues. One, this area is red Flag Warning until 11 00 tonight which means the conditions are ripe for the kind of extreme Fire Behavior that weve been witnessing from our Vantage Point here atop echo summit. Also the humidity levels are low. The fuels are extremely dry. Another issue, the winds expected to be gusty, forecast to be as high as 50 miles an hour. Now we are along highway 50 at echo summit. This is about a 15minute Drive from South
Tahoe basin. It is burning hot and the winds are roaring, pushing these winds closer to south Lake Tahoe. This is new Video South of meyers. Flames coming down the ridge on either side of highway 50. Another blast erupted at a nearby hotel frequented by westerners. At this time, we know that 12 u. S. Service members have been killed in the attack and 15 more Service Members have been injured. Its discouraging new developments on the front lines of the Caldor Wildfire. It is advancing towards Lake Tahoe. Evacuation warnings are in place for people who live close to the tahoe basin. This as the fire grew by another 13,000 acres with no change in containment. 12 contained with 140,000 acres burned. Strong winds continue to fan the flames.
