LA Junta Tribune When Board President Mickie Lewis introduced herself during Monday s La Junta Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, she reluctantly described herself as a transplant, to La Junta and Colorado. Nonetheless, as she expressed, she loves being in rural Southeast Colorado. I wish that I can say that I was from Colorado, said Lewis. But it s not fair, I m not. I ve been here my entire adult life, which is a pretty significant amount of time. I guess eventually, maybe I ll be allowed to wear that moniker. But I did choose La Junta and I did choose Southeast Colorado. I have spent over 20 years developing programming that helps rural and urban areas, but specifically meeting the needs and the requests and the desires of the community that I am serving. I m very humbled to be and happy to be part of this community. I have absolutely grown not just to love it but in love with it. ....
LA Junta Tribune The City of La Junta hosted its first council meeting of the new year on Jan. 4 via a Zoom meeting. The meeting started with mayor Jeffri Pruyn and other council members paying tribute to former La Junta mayor Ardeth Sneath, who passed away on Jan. 2. It then passed an ordinance making supplemental appropriations to the general fund, internal services fund, water fund, waste water fund and conservation trust fund for the year 2020. It was approved unanimously. The council then filled the seat of planning commissioner, which was previously occupied by Jim Goodwin. Council member Paul Velasquez was offered the seat, which he accepted. The council approved his appointment unanimously. ....
