Guest Opinion: Renewing a Rust Belt economy and the planet via innovation

There is a conscious unbuckling of the traditional Rust Belt economy in the Lake Erie region as new innovations and technologies continue to emerge across sectors. Many in our communities work to incorporate environmentally conscious and responsible initiatives at every turn so as not to repeat the evils of those bygone industries.
The irony is not lost that at what once was the chronically polluting Hammermill Paper pulp mill on the shores of Lake Erie is now a plant generating 100 million gallons of biodiesel each year; a medical marijuana production facility; and a regional glass recycling aggregation point. Our family has spent decades revitalizing the former Hammermill acreage with a renewed focus on manufacturing and empowering employees who earn family-sustaining wages. ....
