There is nothing wrong with anybody having an ambition. I don’t think if you say you are going to make me a governor of my state I will say no. I am a bonafide citizen of Katsina State and Nigeria. So why shouldn’t I have any aspirations? The people of Katsina know who I’m. I am a very straightforward person. So if that meeting was for that, I will come out to say, look, I have started my campaign. I’m still making consultations, and when it is time I will come out to state my position. A lot of people have talked to me to go for the race, but I’m still making consultations. Because to be a governor of a state you don’t just wake up and say I want to be a governor. You have to make a lot of consultation, especially here in Katsina, considering the size of the state and also the number of important dignitaries that we have. So it’s not about 2023, I have not made up my mind yet. ....

How mop-up by agencies, neighbouring countries pushes food prices up

Daily Trust frowned at how agents of some international bodies, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are massively mopping up grains like maize, sorghum, millet and rice from the market.
According to them, while buying grains by the government is good as it is part of national security, they said the timing is wrong because this is rainy season.
Prices of food items have gone up, in most cases, beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians, a situation stakeholders partly attribute to the activities of these merchants.

Make fertiliser available for farmers

In an interview with
Daily Trust, the minister said henceforth, the ministry would limit its role to monitoring, regulation and supervision.
The minister’s remark was widely interpreted to mean subsidy withdrawal.
At least this was corroborated by the National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Architect Kabiru Ibrahim, who told
Daily Trust that he was aware that subsidy on fertiliser had been completely removed by the federal government. He added that there was also nothing yet to suggest that state governments would step in to fill the void.
The decision by the federal government is surprising because on December 7, 2020, the minister announced that the ministry had registered and developed the database of five million smallholder farmers for easy targeting with the fertiliser subsidy support through the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI). ....

NIRSAL Fraud: Farmers, Stakeholders Groan As CBN Suspends Anchor Borrowers Loans

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Farmers and other stakeholders have cried out over the negative economic impact that will hit the Nigeria’s economy following the suspension of the Anchor Borrowers Loans scheme mismanaged by the Nigeria Incentive Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).
African Examiner reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had recently suspended all loans disbursed by NIRSAL, following widespread allegations of frauds and corruption by its officials.
The CBN’s suspension of further disbursement of loans by NIRSAL to farmers was contained in a correspondence of March 10, following the Feb. 24 meeting where the decision to suspend further loan disbursements was reached. ....
