As COVID-19 vaccine efforts roll out across Canada, Toronto-based Dr. Fariha Khan is doing her best to help the Muslim community deal with a persistent issue: misinformation.
âWe see it in older generation during this COVID lockdown, who now turn their attention to things like Whatsapp groups to keep in touch with friends and family, especially in other countries,â Khan told CTVNews.ca in a phone interview, explaining that she and other doctors across the country have seen how misinformation has taken hold.
Common questions she hears include whether COVID-19 vaccines are safe or halal, and whether the faithful can be vaccinated during the holy month of Ramadan. Khan says the answer to these questions is an emphatic, âYes.â ....

Coronavirus: Vaccine hesitancy in Black, Latinx Canadians, who were least willing COVID-19 shot, StatCan says

Higher vaccine hesitancy persists among Black Canadians when compared to the general public, with Latinx, Arab, and Métis people also relatively unwilling to get the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Statistics Canada.
New research found that when it came to a willingness to get jabbed, visible minorities overall (74.8 per cent) are fairly comparable to the overall population (76.9 per cent). But there are several outliers, which could be cause for concern for public health workers.
When it came to Black Canadians, only 56.6 per cent of those surveyed were very or somewhat willing to get vaccinated, with only 68 per cent of Arab Canadians and 66 per cent of Latin Americans saying theyâd get a shot. ....
