Further south and hurricane cristobal is indeed almost 1,000 miles away not only south of us, but also offshore. Its not impacting the immediate land masses of the United States now and it wont make land fall, so good news there, but even hundreds of miles away the winds and waves are being picked up a little bit, especially underneath the surface. So even though these waves do not look very significant in the 5 to 10foot range, even as you go about 20 miles offshore youre just getting to the 10 foot range, doesnt sound that dangerous, but you have more going on underneath the surface and thats when you of get the rip currents developing. What they do is they spread out at the shoreline, but they pull you in when youre close. So some rip current safety things to keep in mind here, do not swim on unguarded beaches and stay out of the water when rip current risk is high, which it will be through tomorrow evening.
