CALS and other member organisations of the Right2Protest Project condemn the extreme use of force which reportedly led to the killing of a bystander by police
The Right2Protest Project and its member organisations are horrified by footage circulating of extreme use of force by police against student protesters which has reportedly resulted in a person being killed. As social justice organisations, we are committed to promoting the constitutional right to protest and reforming institutional responses to protest action.
The Right2Protest Project (R2P) is a coalition of organisations working to promote the right to protest. Woodstock Hospital occupiers: 'City of Cape Town trying to get a court order about us, without us'

The City of Cape Town says occupiers of the Woodstock Hospital are in contempt of a court order.
The City adds that the number of occupiers has increased substantially.
Reclaim the City
has strongly opposed the matter, saying it did not have sufficient time to respond.
A legal showdown between illegal occupiers at the defunct Woodstock Hospital and the City of Cape Town is looming.
The City approached the Western Cape High Court to seek an order to conduct a survey of the 1 000 occupants staying in the property.
The occupiers, who are part of the Reclaim the City movement, have strongly opposed the matter. They say they did not have sufficient time to respond. ....

'Twitter feels safe' to abuse victims

In 2019, an anonymous woman on Twitter accused DJ Fresh of rape. Two years later, he and his colleague, DJ Euphonik, have been accused by someone else of rape. This time, the person has opened a case against the two.
“In light of the serious allegations levelled against us we’ve decided to step away from all public work engagements until such … time [as] this matter has been resolved and the law has taken its course,” reads the statement released by the award-winning DJs.
The woman who opened the case a week ago first took to Twitter, alleging that the pair drugged and raped her at a party in 2011. ....
