Had you ever thought about actually being able to go up into space? no. i mean i i m so sorry to to bring you down to earth, to use a phrase. it was all pretend. none none of that i was on a set in paramount studios. what do you mean, bill? what? i never you know, when when shooting star trek, it was all a figment of our collective imagination. and and then, somebody said, oh, you go 1,800 miles an hour and you leave orbit and you go and you land on the moon. land on the moon? oh, my lord. space travel was being considered but and i used to i d go down to the cape kennedy from time to time during the series i was shooting star trek. and i met all the astronauts and the heroes and everything and i was very impressed. so when they went to the moon, i had reached they were at the apogee. i was divorced and the show ....
Kennedy from time to time during the series i was shooting star trek. and i met all the astronauts and the heroes and everything and i was very impressed. so when they went to the moon, i had reached they were at the apogee. i was divorced and the show cancelled and i am looking up there. oh, man. looking at a little black and white and i m lying in a in a cab trying to find to get some sleep because i have to perform perform the next day and i can t afford a hotel room and all that kind of thing. so 55 years later, i wrote a song for this album i ve got that s out there now called bill. yeah, you ve got a spoken-word album that s just come out? that s so cool. it s gotten rave reviews, and one of the songs is so far from the moon. and it s all about that moment when i was looking at the sky, being so far from the moon. and here i am, all this time later, being a few-thousand feet ....
Word outside of just it s incredible. um, the experience really starts with training. um, so training with your c crew mates and everything from climb, release, boost, which actually was one of my favorite parts. the you know, the transition from blue sky to black. and then, of course, seeing earth. the silence of space from apogee was just life changing and really i have a renewed perception of our home planet. you know, people talk about that. about sort of a change in perception. bezos has spoken about that. other astronauts have. there are studies about it, which have shown that usually it s people who have spent more time in space. um, you know, for days or or longer on the space station. wee weeks or months. who sort of change their perspective. just the short time, the few minutes you were up there, did you feel some sort of change? or or new way of kind of thinking about about earth? yeah, absolutely. i mean, i you know, my role ....
