Coming from director writer/director John Patrick Shanley and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment comes the story of life and land in WILD MOUNTAIN THYME.
Tony (Christopher Walken) has lived his life on a beautiful plot of land in Ireland with his son Anthony (Jamie Dornan). In the land next to them is Aoife (Dearbhla Molloy) and daughter Rosemary (Emily Blunt) who keeps her heart out for Anthony.
When Anthony learns that his father might be selling the land to him, he is devastated. He also learns that nephew Adam (Jon Hamm) from America is coming for Tony s birthday and that is who is considered front runner for the land. There is also a piece of land between Tony and Aoife that belongs to Rosemary!
Somewhere in the long list of what we can’t do during the last holidays of 2020 is spending that week or so break traveling and exploring. Perhaps the best option is vacationing virtually via our local cinema (or streaming service). How about heading to the “old country”? No, it’s not that old country, the setting of this holiday. Instead think about the holiday just a few months away: St. Patrick’s Day. This weekend’s new release is an ode to the “Emerald Isle”, although its time frame allows more rain than snow to cover those verdant green fields. It’s setting isn’t Christmas time, but rather WILD MOUNTAIN THYME.

Writer-director John Patrick Shanley’s old-fashioned, at times transporting, romantic comedy “Wild Mountain Thyme” has a lot going for it, which makes it a shame that it’s not a wholly stronger film. That said, as a stress-free chance to take in the lush, gorgeously green Irish countryside, you could do worse.
Based on Shanley’s Tony-nominated 2014 play, “Outside Mullingar,” the movie works hard to feel lyrical and enchanting, yet it frequently proves too fanciful for its own good. As a result, we often remain on the outside looking in on the lead characters’ blarney-infused fears, foibles and quandaries.
