On March 30, KZN recorded its first Covid-19 related death– a 74-year-old man from Ladysmith died after testing positive three days earlier.

Pillay, who ran the Chatsworth anti-drug forum died on Monday while his wife died on Saturday. Both had contracted Covid-19 weeks back and had to be admitted to Ahmed Al-Kadi Private Hospital in Mayville. They will be cremated on Tuesday. As news spread of their death, condolences flooded social media with scores of people grieving their death and lamenting the loss to the community.

Tributes continue to pour in for Director of the Anti-Drug Forum SA at Chatsworth south of Durban Sam Pillay, who passed away due to COVID-19-related complications this morning. His passing follows the death of his wife, Indrani, over the weekend. The couple’s funerals will start at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning at their family home in Chatsworth, before proceeding to the Clare Estate Crematorium. Sixty-four-year-old Pillay was a champion in the fight against drug abuse, with Smart Clubs at schools in KwaZulu-Natal, Mauritius, and the African continent.
