Last summer Eugene Eubanks went through four weeks of COVID-19 hell. Everything hurt. He was so weak he couldn t walk more than a few steps, so he crawled. He needed help to get to the bathroom. He couldn t eat and lost 30 pounds. At one point, he opened his safe, got out his will and called his family.

He doesn t want anyone else to experience that. So that s why he was knocking on doors in a Westside subdivision this week, on a hot afternoon with more than a hint of summer to it.
Wearing a yellow long-sleeved shirt labeled State Emergency Response Team, Eubanks was one of 12 people hired by the state who went door-to-door in the Westchester subdivision off Crystal Springs Road. ....
