IMPORTANT UPDATE: it was recently announced that the tax filing deadline for federal, Pennsylvania state and Pittsburgh local tax returns has been extended to
May 17, 2021.

All J scholars and their dependents who are nonresidents for tax purposes are required to file at least one tax form each year they are in the US. Tax forms for 2019 are due 
April 15, 2021.
Note: The information regarding federal taxes in this email is primarily for J-1 scholars who are 
nonresidents for tax purposes. Visitors in H-1B, TN, or O-1 status and J-1 scholars who are
