One of the darlings of awards season this year Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” is a daring look into the life of a Korean immigrant farmer and his family in rural Arkansas. A simple story, beautifully told - that s what you re getting with
Minari. This family drama is nominated for six Oscars - Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay, Music - and deserves every nod. After watching, plenty will hope that writer-director Lee Isaac Chung, his cast and crew will have more to celebrate come 25 April.
Looking for water.
Chung s semi-autobiographical film is set in 1980s Arkansas, where South Korean couple Jacob (Steve Yuen) and Monica (Yeri Han) and their American-born children David (Alan S Kim) and Anne (Noel Cho) are literally trying to put down roots. After years living in California, Jacob is pursuing his dream of owning a farm. His determination is huge but so is the snag list - and growing. Monica thinks they re now the proud owners of a white elephant; the kids are more worried about their parents fighting than anything else. ....
