Nairobi ward representatives on Friday approved Anne Mwenda for the position of deputy governor.
In what was a swift confirmation process, the county assembly accepted a report from the vetting committee approving her nomination for the position.
Ms Mwenda was vetted Friday morning in a session that lasted slightly more than one hour.
The process began after clerk Edward Gichana confirmed there is no court order stopping the vetting.
Earlier Friday, the High Court threw out cases challenging the nomination of Ms Mwenda as deputy governor, paving way for the vetting process.
During the vetting, promised to fight City Hall cartels as well as work closely with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) should she be approved to the position.
Mohamed s candidacy in Nairobi is being sold as the alternative between the extremes of President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga s choice candidate on one hand, and Deputy President William Ruto s on the other.
“It is true I am under enormous pressure, and I am giving it serious consideration. You and I no doubt agree that Nairobi deserves better than what we have, and what we have had. We will spend 80 per cent of our lives here and will most likely die here, so why not,” Mohamed said when contacted.
He said he never quit politics, but opted to play a background role in shaping leadership and governance, especially in counties.
Sonko Back In Court To Block Vetting Of Nairobi Deputy Governor
The circus revolving around the coveted leadership of Nairobi county continued this week after Mike Sonko moved to court to stop County Assembly from vetting and approving Anne Mwenda as the deputy governor.
In an application filed under a certificate of urgency, the former Nairobi governor is also challenging Cabinet appointments done by acting Governor Benson Mutura on Wednesday.
Through his lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, the impeached governor is accusing Mutura of exercising unlimited powers of an elected governor.
According to Sonko, Mutura has no powers to appoint or dismiss any person in the county government. He says the appointments of Brian Weke as legal advisor, Paul Mutungi as chief of staff, Jairus Musumba as acting County Secretary and dismissal of Justus Kathenge are unlawful and in gross violation of the constitution.
