The council votes 6-3 to remove a historic classification from the building at 142 Free St. Greater Portland Landmarks says it will review the matter before deciding whether to file a legal challenge.
The proposed spending plan cuts fewer positions but maintains the 6.85% tax increase under Superintendent Ryan Scallon's $161 million proposal through cost savings and by tapping into reserves.
The council had its first chance to discuss the proposed $161 million school budget for next year, as both the council and the school board try to limit tax increases next year.
