Chloe Garzon, of Marshall, has been awarded the Loren C. Gruber Endowed Honors Award at Missouri Valley College in Marshall for her Honors Thesis, “How Perceptions of Attractiveness Play a Role in Behaviors.” Garzon collected data that supports the conclusion that when a person perceives someone as more attractive, then they also tend to attribute positive characteristics to that person (friendliness, trustworthiness, likeliness to donate to charity, etc.). Additionally, they would be more likely to be helpful and friendly toward the person they perceive as attractive. Garzon is a May 2021 graduate majoring in Psychology. She is in the process of applying to graduate programs in psychology and intends to pursue a Ph.D. in Psychology. ....
Missouri Valley College students recently received awards from the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA). This organization is made up of mass communication departments from colleges and universities across the state of Missouri. Each year, students enter audio and video projects that are judged by industry professionals. Missouri Valley College students received six awards, and there were 29 categories with winners from 13 different schools this year. MVC won the Multicamera Live Sports Event category for the “Valley-CMU Women’s soccer match” from the fall of 2020. Missouri Valley College has won a multi-camera category in the contest six of the last seven years. ....
