Meet the ASG presidential candidates

The Associated Student Government presidential election began Thursday evening. Voting will continue until Saturday evening, allowing students to choose the next chief student ambassadors to the administration. This year, there are two tickets on the ballot. SESP sophomore Caleb Snead and Weinberg sophomore Ty’Shea Woods are running as co-presidents. Weinberg junior Nicole Aguilar-Medina is running.

Associated Student Government presidential candidates gathered in Harris Hall to talk structure, representation and funding at an annual debate on Sunday ahead of this week’s presidential election. SESP sophomore Caleb Snead and Weinberg sophomore Ty’Shea Woods are running as co-presidents. Weinberg junior Nicole Aguilar-Medina is running for president with SESP junior Anna Alava as her.

AASP, LLSP programs continue to push for department status

The Associated Student Government passed legislation in January supporting departmentalization status for the Latina and Latino Studies and Asian American Studies programs.  The resolution was the result of years of advocacy largely driven by student efforts. In 2018, ASG passed legislation proposed by Latinx Asian American Collective encouraging departmentalization. That same year, the University founded.

ASG Senate passes two resolutions, proposes restructuring operations

The Associated Student Government Senate passed two resolutions Wednesday calling on the University to grant department status to two Council of Race and Ethnic Studies programs and shift Peer-Guided Study Group registration times. The Senate leadership also proposed legislation to eliminate weekly meetings. The first resolution, authored by Alianza Senator and Weinberg sophomore Nicole Aguilar-Medina.
