Coastal Virginia project set to be next Biden milestone for offshore wind

Twenty-seven miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia, stand two offshore wind turbines, each taller than the Washington Monument, generating power for up to 3,000 homes.
In five years, Dominion Energy hopes to be finishing construction of its own ocean skyline complete with 180 turbines standing roughly 200 feet taller than the pilot project, three underwater power substations, and a deep-sea transmission line to bring that electricity to shore.
The Virginia-based utility expects the commercial project, now the largest proposed offshore wind project in the country, to generate 2.6 gigawatts of electricity. That is enough zero-carbon electricity to power 660,000 homes. ....

John Warner, a former Republican U.S. senator, died at his Alexandria home on May 25 due to a heart ailment. He was 94.
Widely known throughout his five terms for his innate ability to garner support on both sides of the political aisle, Warner ultimately left his mark as someone who operated with patience, curiosity and a deep mastery of the Senate process.
Warner served in the U.S. Senate, representing Virginia from 1979 to 2009 making him the second longest serving senator from Virginia, behind Harry F. Byrd. ....

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)  The 2021 School of Nursing graduated Monday afternoon. 150 students were recognized during a pinning ceremony at Loeb Playhouse.
What sets this class apart is their persistence through the pandemic. This included learning how to administer the COVID vaccine to help out local clinics.
Professor Ann Loomis was the recipient of the Exceptional Early Career Award. It s an award that goes to teachers who have been at Purdue for less than three years. ....
