Ira Glass joined National Public Radio in the late 1970s. He spent the next decade trying to sound like an NPR reporter. How does an NPR reporter sound? Imagine a tenured professor reading you a bedtime story a story that includes a lot of market reports. Glass couldn’t do it. “I really wanted to just invent a different way to talk,” he said during a recent interview.
