UK Students Invited to Share COVID-19 Experiences

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 19, 2021) The Wellness, Health & You (WHY) program invites University of Kentucky students to share COVID-19 experiences in a brief, confidential survey. WHY is a long-term research program that uses annual surveys to learn about how different life experiences affect health and well-being.
“The WHY research initiative is committed to serving Kentuckians by gathering data about how COVID-19 has affected their lives in a multitude of facets,” said Hannah Bowman, a UK College of Nursing student who serves as a student ambassador for WHY.
Anyone 18 and up is invited to join WHY and take the first COVID-19 survey of 2021. WHY questionnaires are completely confidential. In addition to the COVID-19 survey, WHY also has surveys that focus on the health of people of color and of queer individuals. Joining WHY is, and always will be, completely free. ....

Ongoing Survey Shows Changes in Behaviors, Attitudes Over First Year of Pandemic

LEXINGTON, Ky.
(April 2, 2021) New findings from the University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS)  Wellness, Health & You (WHY) program reveal changes in Kentuckian’s COVID-19 prevention behaviors and attitudes about vaccination over the first year of the pandemic. More than 1,500 people have completed brief surveys designed to understand how Kentuckians are responding to the pandemic. An infographic of the findings is available here. 
WHY conducted two sets of surveys in 2020, one from April to June and the second from October to December. The overwhelming majority of respondents (more than 90%) indicated that they had used personal protection behaviors in the past week, and while the practice of social distancing increased over the year, it hovered around 50%. Kentuckians most likely to use personal protection and social distancing measures were inspired by having someone close to them ....

BIRCWH Program Accepting Applications for Women's Health Research


Applications are being accepted through March 15, 2021, for two scholar positions and up to three associate positions available effective August 2021.
The UK Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program is entering its 21st year as a founding National Institutes of Health program. BIRCWH scholars and associates, who are selected through a competitive application process, are junior faculty from across the University of Kentucky. BIRCWH faculty are those with the interest and potential to establish their own funded research programs in women’s health.
This call for applications is for a 12-month appointment. During the 12 months, selected faculty are expected to complete training in the ethical conduct of research, participate in seminars and set the foundation to become an established, independent researcher in women s health. In order to accomplish these goals, this NIH training grant covers 75% of the scholar s protected time to ....
