rally at the national mall. thousands of local leaders, organizers and gun control activists marching for stricter gun laws. john henrehan was there with the latest. john? reporter: a crowd of 3 howe in washington 3,000 in washington is not a sure turnout. one participant said today s rally for gun control laws was not the end point but the beginning of a crusade. they marched on constitution avenue from the grounds of the u.s. capitol to the grounds of the washington monument carrying signs decrying the power of the national rifle soccer. some association. some carried signs with the names of individual victims of gun violence other and signs asked the country to remember the massacre in newtown, connecticut. a small contingent joined the organizers on the stage. at the rally, the crowd appeared to be about 3,000 strong. organizers warned the foot for more gun control legislation would be a tough one but . look at all the changes people said could not happen. civil
and flooded the whole area. reporter: officials say they had to sunday in water rescue send in water rescue teams to the area near the laurel raceway. one holeless man was rescued from the flood waters and another found dead and so far, neither is identified. a call came in for a report of a person missing from a tent community located on the next to the bridge. units responded to the scene. reporter: dams controlling the flow of the river have been under increased stress since last night s storms. the washington suburban sanitary commission had to open the floodgates to relieve the pressure on the dams that control the water level causing problems downstream in towns like laurel. the reservoirs are able to handle so much rain, but this was a little too much and so they had to relieve the pressure. they opened up the floodgates. reporter: the red cross is helping to staff the evacuation center near route 1. and so far, residents say they are trying to balance th
capital 4th fireworks spectacular didn t disappoint. the extravaganza lit up the sky for 25 minutes. despite the oppressive heat, there was quite a crowd for this.
