her program to a gun show in new york. good to have you with us. the senate held debates today to put an end to the government shutdown and raids the debt ceiling but republicans and democrats remain divided and were unable to reach agreement before the senate adjourned. members stressinged the cost of the shutdown and its effect on the american public. americans are rightly looking at congress aand saying what are you guys doing? why are you hurting people, why are you hurting families? why are you impeding our economic recovery? they re also saying why aren t you working on away we sent you there to do? on creating jobs, on improving our educational system. on addressing our nation s long term fiscal sustainability. so where do we go from here? the house and senate will reconvene on monday. the country is scheduled to hit its debt ceiling on thursday october 17th. for more we turn to john terrett who has been following events on capitol hill. slow progress regarding
