Leni asks: If there is no hard evidence, why disclose the names of lawmakers?

(OVP / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN)
President Duterte bared the names of former and current lawmakers who allegedly received kickbacks from the government’s public works projects.
They were in the list provided by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) that supposedly cropped up from its investigation, although Duterte admitted he has no evidence of such allegations.
“Ang sa akin, ang tanong ko nga, kung wala namang hard evidence, bakit kailangang pangalanan?” she asked during her radio show, “BISErbisyong Leni.”
(For me, my question is, why should they be named if there was no hard evidence?)
The vice president said that a thorough investigation should be conducted to prove the lawmakers are indeed guilty of corruption. ....

Robredo hits Duterte for naming lawmakers in DPWH graft
MANILA, Philippines Vice President Leni Robredo said yesterday she does not agree with President Duterte’s naming of current and former congressmen allegedly involved in corruption related to public works projects.
“If there is no hard evidence, why would you name them?” Robredo, a lawyer, said in her weekly program over dzXL. “The best thing to do if there are reports (of anomalies) is to conduct an investigation.”
Last week, Duterte revealed the names of eight incumbent congressmen and one former legislator who were linked to alleged corruption in public works projects, including kickbacks and influence peddling. ....

“My inclusion in the PACC report fed to President Rodrigo Duterte is baseless and malicious. I deny in the strongest sense any attempt to besmirch my name,” he said.
At least eight incumbent representatives and one former legislator were named by President Duterte for their alleged links to anomalous projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
He likewise ordered the relief of over a dozen district engineers.
The President clarified that the inclusion of the legislators and engineers in the PACC list does not automatically constitute evidence nor prove that they are guilty of the accusations thrown against them. ....

Duterte's list of lawmakers linked to corruption a diversionary tactic—LP – Manila Bulletin

Published December 29, 2020, 11:04 AM
After President Duterte took his corruption allegations publicly against members of the Liberal Party, the opposition said it was a diversionary tactic used by the current administration to sidetrack discussions on issues of national interest.
In a statement, the Liberal Party stood by its members who Duterte accused of corruption during his weekly address to the nation on Monday night. The President, however, admitted that he has no evidence of such allegations.
“Matitino at mahuhusay ang mga binanggit niyang kasapi ng Partido (The members of the Party that the president mentioned are all good and competent). They have won mandates in various elections because of the trust of their constituencies. They have been recognized for their service. They continue to help and serve however they can, regardless of whether they currently hold office or not,” the LP said. ....
