May 2, 2021 NEWTON FALLS Douglas Allen Hanson, 63, of Newton Falls, passed away of natural causes Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Hospice House in Poland. He was born April 2, 1958, in Warren, the third and youngest son of Ruby and Eugene Hanson and lived most of his life in Newton Falls. He graduated from Newton Falls High School with the class of 1976. He was a pipefitter working out of Pipefitters Local Union 188. Doug had an intense love of animals. Prior to his disability, he had been an active member of the Masonic Lodge and a past Worshipful Master. Preceding Doug were his father, Eugene; his mother, Ruby; his stepfather, Joseph Bajnok; his oldest brother, Dennis Hanson; and his sister-in-law, Angela Hanson. ....
Oskaloosa’s Virtual Program Becomesa State Approved Online School The Oskaloosa Community School District’s Virtual Learning Program obtained approval from the Iowa Department of Education as an online school on January 14, 2021. The Oskaloosa Virtual Academy (as it will now be called) is a fully comprehensive online school for students in grades Kindergarten through 12. This program was originally implemented to give families an online learning choice during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Iowa Department of Education program approval allows both resident and open-enrolled students to participate in the online school beyond the current school year, beginning in the fall of 2021. This opens up a door of opportunity for students for whom online learning is a good fit to engage in educational opportunities with Oskaloosa educators in a flexible, digital environment. ....
Rosedale Union School District is the biggest district in Kern County that brought general education students of all grade levels onto campus this fall. It has vocal support from its families, administration and board to bring students on campus as quickly as possible. So the moment the district could, it welcomed students to campuses in person. The gradual rollout over the last six weeks was completed last week when the oldest students returned. But it didn t last long. Freedom Middle School closed its campus Thursday, a little over a week after opening, and the rest of the school district will switch back to distance learning next week. ....
