'Love, unity and culture' touted at Malcolm X Day | Events

The third Annual Malcolm X Day Celebration brought plenty of food, entertainment, cultural arts information about the renowned Muslim minister and human rights activist.
The event was held on May 17 at Daisy Stocking Park and was hosted by Community Healing Project (CHP), a non-profit organization run by activist Dyrell Johnson, better known as Rell Black.

DAYTONA BEACH There were moments of both optimism and cautiousness on Wednesday, as members of the Halifax Area Advertising Authority board of directors assessed the emergence of the World’s Most Famous Beach from the catastrophic tourism downturn tied to the coronavirus pandemic.
On the plus side, tourism bed-collections for the Halifax area that includes Volusia’s beachside destinations are trending higher than anyone dared imagine during the pandemic’s height a year ago. ....

Jeep Beach party unfolds at Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach

After the 2020 edition of Jeep Beach was called off amid the slew of event cancellations tied to the coronavirus pandemic, the Paces were more eager than ever to return to this year s event, which runs through Sunday in Daytona Beach.
“It’s a Jeep family,” Pace said. “It’s a ‘Jamily.’ We’ve met just some of the nicest people here.”
On the beach, the couple parked their customized 2020 Jeep Gladiator next to one of those Jeep Beach friends.
Lance Collins, 51, met the couple at Jeep Beach four years ago in the hotel bar at The Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores. It turned out that he lived less than an hour away from them in Wilmington, Delaware, and that they had mutual connections in the roofing and home design industries. ....

Jeep Beach returns to Daytona Beach April 19-25, boosting tourism

DAYTONA BEACH When thousands of Jeep vehicles and the people who love them roll into Volusia County for the annual Jeep Beach celebration this week, it marks another welcome sign of optimism for the area’s tourism industry, hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic over the past year.
Hoteliers anticipate sold-out rooms over much of the event, which shifts into high gear on Monday and runs through Sunday, April 25. Likewise, restaurant managers and other tourist-related businesses also are expecting the Jeep fans to boost sales.
The beachside Hard Rock Hotel, the event’s headquarters hotel, will be Ground Zero for many of the week’s activities. The list includes “Jeeps At the Rock,” two days of beach activities on Wednesday and Thursday that feature a surf school, games, vendors, prize raffles, drink specials and a pool party. ....

Brower, Hard Rock owner talk beach driving

DAYTONA BEACH Volusia County Council Chair Jeff Brower and the owner of the Hard Rock Hotel both reported a “frank” discussion on Thursday after emerging from an hour-long closed-door meeting about beach driving and the poles that limit it behind the hotel.
But did they come to any terms about beach driving? Brief statements after the meeting didn t indicate any agreement.
“We’re going to continue to talk; it was very, very frank,” said Brower, who pledged to make beach driving a priority after his November election win. “It was very cool, very friendly, but to the point.”
Almost the same words were used to describe the meeting by Abbas Abdulhussein, head of the company that owns the hotel, Asante Asset Management LLC. The company was previously known as Summit Hospitality Management Group. ....
